Editor's Note: Interesting. Sports has ALWAYS reminded me of modern day slavery which is why I don't watch.
15-yr NFL Vet & Atlanta Radio Host Wayne Gandy slams Common's “Slave Master Mentality”[caption id="attachment_183242" align="alignnone" width="600"] Wayne Gandy "The Sports Radio DJ"[/caption]
Former NFL Falcon says no black man in this country knows anything about being owned by a slave owner.
In response to hip-hop star/actor Common's comments, 15-yr NFL Vet and Atlanta radio morning man Wayne Gandy took to the mic this morning slamming the outspoken star’s “slave master mentality” description of Dallas Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones.
Gandy said, “Common and no black man in this country knows anything about being owned by a slave (owner). It's one of those statements we need to remove from our conversation."
We like to say "slave mentality", we love to say how somebody "treatin us like a slave". We don't know, we ain't even witnessed it. But we love to throw that around as a way to discredit someone.
The former Atlanta Falcon further explained, “... why were are NOT slaves, Common, is because you actually can quit your job. You see, slavery you couldn't quit. And if you mentioned quitting (or) if the foreman on the slave plantation thought you might be thinking of quitting, he might snatch you and hit you with that whip.”
Wayne Gandy took the first segment of his show defending Jerry Jones and said, “Cowboys players are not slaves, they have a boss. These guys can take a knee at the mall, they can take a knew outside in the parking lot by their car and anywhere else.”
“Let's stop with the "slave master mentally"!

ANDRA DAY RELEASES “STAND UP FOR SOMETHING” FEATURING COMMON ON MARSHALL OFFICIAL SOUNDTRACK ALBUM
FILM OPENS IN THEATERS OCTOBER 13
ORIGINAL SONG WRITTEN BY THE LEGENDARY DIANE WARREN
GRAMMY® Award-nominated platinum soul powerhouse Andra Day releases the moving anthem “Stand Up For Something” [feat. Common] from the forthcoming soundtrack album for the film Marshall.
The full soundtrack album for Marshall arrives in stores and at all digital retailers via Warner Bros. Records on September 15th while the film opens in theaters everywhere Friday October 13.
The original song was written for Marshall by GRAMMY®, Emmy®, and Golden Globe® Award-winning and eight-time Academy® Award-nominated legend Diane Warren and Academy® Award and GRAMMY® Award-winning hip-hop icon and actor Common. It spotlights Day’s show-stopping and stunning vocals over powerful production as well as thought-provoking rhymes from Common. In addition, Marshall marks Day’s on-screen debut in the film.
About “Stand Up For Something” and Marshall, Day comments, “I was so moved by the story of Thurgood Marshall. It was an incredible honor to not only be asked to record the lead single, but also appear in the movie. I’ve always dreamed of working with Diane and Common, and the experience was better than I could have ever imagined. This is such an important project. I’m thankful to be a part of it.”
“I am so honored to have worked with Andra and Common on this important song. I am more proud of this song than any other I have ever written,” said Warren.
Stay tuned for more details on the Marshall Soundtrack soon.
Starring Chadwick Boseman, Josh Gad, Kate Hudson, Dan Stevens, Sterling K. Brown, and James Cromwell, Marshall is based on a true incident in the life of Thurgood Marshall, when he was a young lawyer, long before his appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court. As the nation teeters on the brink of WWII, a nearly bankrupt naacp sends Marshall to conservative Connecticut to defend a black chauffeur against his wealthy socialite employer in a sexual assault and attempted murder trial that quickly became tabloid fodder. In need of a high profile victory but muzzled by a segregationist court, Marshall is partnered with Samuel Friedman, a young Jewish lawyer who has never tried a case. Marshall and Friedman struggle against a hostile storm of fear and prejudice, driven to discover the truth in the sensationalized trial that helped set the groundwork for the Civil Rights Movement to come.

Symphonic Hip Hop began with a bang as the platform launched via concert "A Night Of Symphonic Hip Hop", featuring GRAMMY® Award-winning rapper, producer, and actor Common, as well as the Columbus Symphony Orchestra on the Bicentennial Stage-Columbus of Commons Park in Columbus, OH July 15. Performing tracks from his latest album, "Black America Again", Common led the evening in a performance that the Columbus Dispatch called "creative", "eloquent", and "passionate". This innovative and genre-melding live paradigm will continue to expand into a full-scale North American tour next year-an industry first, presenting a Live Nation Urban (LNU) and TCG Entertainment produced concert series entitled "A Night Of Symphonic Hip Hop."
With 'A Night Of Symphonic Hip Hop,' TCG and LNU set out to offer a diverse experience for consumers and artists while redefining the paradigm and perception of what a live hip hop music show must be. The goal is to build out the platform as a viable touring model for artists, multiple shows across multiple markets. "Let's write the new story together", Common concluded in his set. Catch "A Night Of Symphonic Hip Hop" again with Common and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at Heinz Hall July 20 in Pittsburgh, PA.
