I can’t believe another week has come and gone, well yes I can and it has shit. It’s Christmas Eve and I know the industry is THRILLED to take this next week off. Is it me or does it seem it was once a longer break? It seems to me it was 2 weeks at one time. I certainly remember being bombarded with gifts around this time of the year from the labels when I was a PD 20 years ago. That was if I wasn’t working for a greedy ass mom and pop owner that didn’t intercept the mail and keep the gifts for themselves (laugh). Did I tell you about the time we were giving away VCR players (I know that sounds so antiquated now) on the air and the owner’s son stole all the VCRs to satisfy his crack habit AFTER I announced the promotion on the air (laugh). Those were the days, I tell you AND I’M GLAD THEY ARE GONE. If I never work at a radio station again, I seriously would not be bothered by it. Why are so many people addicted to that shit? Could you imagine if Cathy Hughes went through all the mail at every station addressed to the radio staff? Oh, she does? Speaking of Cathy Hughes and Radio One… I am bored talking about that company. There is just no progress there and nothing exciting to report. The company needs an overhaul in the upper management departments and is dated and they refuse to grow… NEXT. I’m on to the innovators and creative folks in radio.
I enjoy this time of the year because it gives me a chance to evaluate what I’ve done right and wrong with the business. I think I’m addicted to blogging and I have to admit, I don’t know if that’s good or bad. I guess it’s not that bad but what is bad is it makes you gain a lot of weight. I’m pretty damn fat right now and I don’t like it. This is also the time I can clean out my email box get off all these damn lists I seem to be on for every social network and for every party thrown in the US. That shit is SO annoying to get every day I don’t go out anymore and if I do I’m probably either being paid or I WANT to be there which is rare. I can also get rid of most of the porn that comes in my mailbox. No, I don’t get porn in my mailbox. (I feel the need to explain that to a radio person out there who still doesn’t get me, then again, for the most part, I don’t give a fuck at the same time. Is there a support group for people like me who don’t give a fuck what other people think about them?)
Molestation Nation!
How many molesters are there in the industry DAMN… that amount of stories I ran this year was OUTRAGEOUS of all the jocks who got busted trying to hook up with kids. It’s so easy to attack those people but I don’t know anything about that except that it’s some kind of a mental illness, of course I would physically attack them if it was my kid but damn there were a LOT of cases this year. There are some weird people out there. Did you see the video of the notorious ass sniffer I ran today? After that, what in the hell is next, I beg you.
Deaths in the Industry
There were a LOT of industry deaths.. more than I have ever seen. I have truly learned to become numb and I suggest that we all LIVE and stop procrastinating over dumb shit. The Nate Quick situation actually did fuck me up because I was supposed to stop through to see him while in Dallas this summer and I never made it. I had no idea he was ill and we started out in radio together. He was one of a VERY, VERY, VERY few industry people I could truly call a real “friend.” I don’t trust a lot of people and my son is turning out to be just like me. Hank Spann once told me he thought I was a genius and I was honored. I had NO idea until he passed that he was one of the jocks I so admired and listened to as a kid on WUFO in Buffalo.

Thanks to all the clients that helped to take Radio Facts to the next level this year. I really appreciate you and look forward to working with you in 2010. Thanks to all the PDs, MDs, Jocks and industry people who get me and RF. There are still some snobbish and stuffy ass conservative PDs out there who think I’m a bit much. Then again, they probably go home and cross dress when nobody’s looking too (laugh). Take a damn laxative.. constipated mothafookas.. don’t take this shit so seriously.
Kanye and Taylor
Kanye’s antic turned out to be a great blessing for taylor swift. Taylor couldn’t have PURCHASED that kind of publicity. The new “darling” of the music industry’s star has shot into the stratosphere after the MTV incident where Kanye stole her moment. By the way, has anyone seen Kanye? (laugh). I think the more he hides the more damage it does. He’s probably in some kind of therapy but he’s not Maxwell or Sade. Out of site, out of mind, out of pocket. I have to admit, I’m not into the Broadway tunish type music that Susan Boyle sings but you have to be in awe of her success. The odds were SO against her and she is a great indication and definition of what “Taking a Chance” can do.
