Jackson State University has been honored as the HBCU of the Year by the Small Business Administration for championing small businesses and entrepreneurship in Mississippi. The distinction was presented as part of a ceremony by the SBA Mississippi 2020 Small Business Week that was held virtually in September. In declaring the winner, Mississippi district director Janita R.

The U.S. Small Business Administration has celebrated National Small Business Week for more than 50 years. The Mississippi district office works in tandem with the national SBA in recognizing that small business plays a central role in building a strong country and economic future.

JSU has been involved in other SBA events, including an HBCU Entrepreneurship Summit and an outreach event related to its SBIC (Small Business Investment Company) program. The university also hosted a session on SBA’s traditional lending program.
