I know Mike is going to laugh about this but I KEEP getting emails from Atlanta area from people who still LOVE him and Carol Blackmon from their days as the morning hosts at V103. Just about every time I write stories about changes at V103 a slew of people email me about “What happened to Mike and Carol?”
As most of you know Carol Blackmon is my favorite female jock in the nation. My mother actually turned me on to Carol when I was in college. She always had Carol’s show on when I would come home during breaks when she was on WBLK and she always said, “That girl has a really nice voice, doesn’t she?” That was long before I even thought about being in radio myself but she was right.
Mike is also phenomenal as a host as well and while he went to high school with my older brother Keith. Keith told me Mike was even into radio in high school, I didn’t know Mike growing up but I have always admired his style on the air. I know they both still have it. I was thinking the last time I was in Atlanta and I was watching that AM Atlanta, Good Morning Atlanta or Get Yo Lazy Ass up Atlanta type morning show on TV there, it was beyond HORRID (the new Kevin doesn’t like the morning TV news shows in Atlanta)… I was thinking since Mike and Carol are not on the radio anymore (well Carol is at a Radio One station there)… what if they got together again and took over one of those Good Morning Atlanta TV Shows? I would propose it to the right people but I don’t want Mike and Carol to get pissed at me (laugh). I have NEVER seen a situation when 2 jocks have not been a team for over 10 years and the audience STILL craves them as much as these two. By the way they are both from the land of the BEST DJs in the nation… my hometown Buffalo (believe me that’s about the ONLY good thing to report from that town). I mean since celebrities are mowing down our turf at urban radio, perhaps we should not get mad but just take a page out of their book.
All those things you said are true! What an awesome team. I remember a young lady by the air name of “Paula Hx in tha Mix”, whatever happened to her? She was on V 103 during that same era from 2-6p. That lady was the “joint”, she also hosted the “Mistress of the Funk” on the weekends. Can anybody find her?
