High-Speed Chase from West Memphis to Memphis Ends in Two Arrests (Video)

Introduction

A dramatic high-speed chase that began in West Memphis, Arkansas, concluded in Memphis, Tennessee, with the arrest of two men. The entire pursuit was captured on dash cam, highlighting the risks and consequences of attempting to evade law enforcement.

The Incident

The chase involved a black 2021 Ford Mustang, which was reported stolen. Arkansas State Police attempted to pull over the vehicle on Interstate 55. Despite the flashing blue lights, the Mustang sped away, reaching speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.

Tactical Intervention

As the chase progressed, officers executed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) maneuver at the intersection of I-55 North Service Road and MLK in West Memphis. This maneuver successfully forced the Mustang off the road, demonstrating the troopers’ commitment to public safety despite the inherent dangers of such actions.

Arrest and Seizure

Following the intervention, officers apprehended the driver, 23-year-old Kylen Cunningham, and the passenger, 23-year-old Reagan Burnett. A search of the vehicle revealed stolen key fobs, a loaded firearm, and drugs.

Law Enforcement Perspective

Lieutenant Colonel Mike Kennedy, who trains troopers for pursuit situations, emphasized that officers are not acting recklessly but are dedicated to protecting the public. He highlighted the constant efforts to find safer ways to handle such dangerous situations while stressing that fleeing from police will have serious consequences.

Both Cunningham and Burnett are facing multiple charges in Currituck County. The charges include reckless driving, possession of stolen property, and drug possession.

Conclusion

The West Memphis to Memphis chase serves as a stark reminder of the perils of attempting to escape law enforcement. Authorities continue to refine their tactics to ensure public safety while sending a clear message to potential offenders about the repercussions of such actions.
