Jack Jones Pleads Not Guilty to 9 Gun Charges

In a court appearance on Tuesday, Jack Jones, a 25-year-old cornerback for the New England Patriots, pleaded not guilty to gun charges. He was arrested on Friday at Boston’s Logan Airport after two guns were discovered in his carry-on luggage, according to the Massachusetts State Police. Despite the charges, Jones was able to post $30,000 for bail, and his next court hearing is scheduled for August 18.

His lawyer, Rosemary C. Scapicchio, stated that ”All Mr. Jones wants to do is play football, he doesn’t want to be a distraction at all.

He had no intention of bringing any guns onto an airport that day and I expect that the evidence is going to show that he had no knowledge of what was going on.”

The charges against Jones include unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, and possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card, as stated by the police. A spokesperson for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office spoke to Boston Glob “If were convicted and sentenced consecutively on each charge, he’d face more than 30 years in prison.”

Jones, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, had an active rookie season, appearing in 13 games with two starts. He recorded 30 tackles, two interceptions, six passes defensed, and one fumble recovery.

Notably, he scored a touchdown on a 40-yard interception return against Aaron Rodgers during the Patriots’ Week 4 loss to the Green Bay Packers. The Patriots released a statement on Saturday saying ‘We have been notified that Jack Jones was arrested at Logan Airport earlier today. We are in the process of gathering more information and will not be commenting further at this time.”

They declined to provide further comments at this time.
