Personal Altercation Leaves 1 Dead, 7 Shot in Chicago

A “personal altercation” has left one person dead, and seven others shot at a park in Chicago Tuesday evening. Police said the gunfire broke out near a baseball field at the park.

Chicago Police Deputy Chief Fred Melean said at a press conference that two feuding groups had engaged in a “personal altercation” on the city’s South Side in Washington Park around 7:45 p.m., which resulted in an exchange of gunfire.

According to Melean, all the victims were adults, and no bystanders appeared to have been involved in the shooting.

The UniverSoul Circus was scheduled to launch a twelve-date residency at the park. According to officials, families were ensured that their safety would remain a top priority, and there would be no concern about gun violence during Thursday night’s performance.

“When the circus is operating, they have more security there, we have staff that patrols the park, so the circus is safe to come to,” Melean advised.

For any information leading to the arrest of the shooters or the killer, a $15,000 reward is being offered by police.
