A representative for the U.S. Marine Corp Band has told several media outlets that Beyonce lip synched her rendition of the national anthem during this week’s Presidential Inauguration ceremony. An unnamed source has told US Weekly: “She didn’t think there was anything wrong with it”.
No stranger to controversy or criticism, Beyonce came under fire when her baby bump appeared to collapse on Australian television as she took her seat, and previously, Etta James slammed the vocalist for singing “At Last” for President Obama’s first dance at the Neighborhood Ball 2009. Legendary artist Aretha Franklin appeared to come to her defense, stating that for “most singers”, cold temperatures are not ideal conditions in which to perform. Beyonce has earned 16 Grammy Awards, 12 MTV Video Music Awards, a Billboard Millennium Award, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (with her group Destiny’s Child).
As a solo artist, she has sold over 13 million albums in the United States and over 75 million records worldwide. Beyonce has yet to confirm nor deny the lip sync allegations.
