Leading up to the important primary election in Kentucky there were already claims of attempted voter suppression due to only having one voting location in Jefferson county. When polls opened at 6 a.m., a line had formed but was moving fairly quickly according to those who were voting at the Kentucky Exposition Center at the state fairgrounds. When 6 pm hit, there were still people in line at the time and of course, voting officials shut the door on them.
The crowd of mostly black voters was not having it and started to bang on the doors while shouting, “let us in!” It took an injunction submitted by state Rep. Charles Booker, a Democratic U.S. Senate candidate, to get a judge to allow voting to continue until at least 6:30 pm. The videos below show what true voter suppression looks like. Black people fought for the right to vote 150 years ago and apparently the fight still continues.
