Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios Signs Long-Term Agreement With Nielsen For Total Audience Measurement

Byron Allen's Entertainment Studios, one of the largest independent producers and distributors of first-run syndicated television (TV) programming for broadcast television stations, has signed a long-term agreement with Nielsen for linear and digital measurement services. The agreement makes available Nielsen's best-in-class TV measurement for TV programs and commercial content in broadcast syndication and across all seven of the Entertainment Studios HD cable television networks. The Entertainment Studios HD networks include: PETS.TV, COMEDY.TV, RECIPE.TV, CARS.TV, ES.TV, MYDESTINATION.TV, and JUSTICECENTRAL.TV and collectively they reach nearly 80 million subscribers nationwide.

"Nielsen's world-class tools and measurement systems will continue to help us demonstrate the total value of our audience with this long-term deal," said Byron Allen, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Entertainment Studios. "We are thrilled to be working with Nielsen as we look to unlock the full potential of our content, broadcast television programming, cable networks, and digital platforms for advertisers."

Nielsen's rich datasets will enhance Entertainment Studios' ability to fully analyze and showcase audience's characteristics, viewing habits and content engagement. When this additional wealth of information is combined with smarter and actionable advertising spend intelligence, it delivers enhanced value to Entertainment Studios during the media buying and selling process.

In addition, the Entertainment Studios digital video-centric news platform The Grio will leverage several solutions from the Nielsen Total Audience Measurement framework including Nielsen Digital Content Ratings (DCR) and Nielsen Total Content Ratings (TCR). The activation of Digital Content Ratings and Total Content Ratings will deliver daily updates that enable the comparison between digital and linear audiences with comparable metrics. The integrated solutions will provide unduplicated audience metrics that simplify the media selling process and assist with optimizing their available ad inventory regardless of the platform and ad load.

"Today's television environment is complex and requires faster, more powerful and flexible tools that cut through the clutter and deliver smarter insights that help inform business decisions," said Peter Bradbury, Managing Director, Nielsen National Client Solutions. "Nielsen's wide-range of products and services empower clients like Entertainment Studios to go beyond topline analysis and look at deep, in-market trends of how their linear and digital properties are performing. We are excited to take our relationship with Entertainment Studios to the next level by delivering a complete set of solutions that provides them with comparable metrics for digital and TV."

NAB Education Foundation To Honor FEDEX With Corporate Leadership Award

The NAB Education Foundation (NABEF) will present its Corporate Leadership Award to FedEx during the 19th annual Celebration of Service to America Awards, held Tuesday, June 20 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C. Each year, the Corporate Leadership Award is given to a business outside of the broadcast industry that exemplifies an extraordinary focus on community service and corporate social responsibility.

FedEx provides customers and businesses worldwide with a broad portfolio of transportation, e-commerce and business services. With an annual revenue of $58 billion, the company employs more than 400,000 team members across the globe, handles an average of 13 million shipments each business day and serves more than 220 countries and territories.

FedEx Cares is the platform the company uses to invest in communities around the world. It applies the strength of the FedEx network, team members and resources to connect people globally with opportunities to thrive. In support of these efforts, FedEx has committed to investing $200 million in more than 200 communities by 2020.

A key component of the FedEx Cares platform is the company’s focus on “Delivering for Good.” With its global fleet and shipping expertise, FedEx is uniquely prepared to provide relief organizations with urgently-needed supplies quickly and efficiently in times of emergency. The company donated funds and charitable shipping to the American Red Cross as they responded to 190 large disasters in the U.S. in 2016. FedEx has also worked with Direct Relief for more than a decade and assisted the aid organization with delivering over 35,000 pounds of medicine and other supplies to Haiti after the devastating impact of Hurricane Matthew in 2016. Also, FedEx has partnered with the United Services Organization (USO) as its primary shipper for 15 years, ensuring the delivery of thousands of care packages each year to service men, women and their families.

“Through its emergency aid and services that cultivate global business, sustainability and education, FedEx works tirelessly to improve lives in communities around the world,” said NABEF President Marcellus Alexander. “We are pleased to honor FedEx for its continued advancement of commerce and opportunity at home and abroad.”

In addition to donating the use of its network for important causes, FedEx also focuses its community investments in four areas core to its business: Road Safety, Global Entrepreneurship, Sustainable Transportation and Employment Pathways. FedEx leads numerous global initiatives within those areas, including a global road safety awareness campaign that reaches students in 10 countries, an incubator for women entrepreneurs in Latin America, a program to make transportation more environmentally friendly in developing markets, and a workforce development initiative that aims to connect thousands of youth with meaningful employment opportunities in the United States.

FedEx also fosters a culture of giving back. During the 2016 FedEx Cares United Way campaign, employees donated more than $12 million to charitable organizations and volunteered 90,000+ hours to more than 510 projects.

Report Forecasts US Music Production and Publishing Revenues at $17 Biillion

rfocus.orgUS music production and publishing industry revenues are forecast to total $16.9 billion in 2021, representing 4.0% annual growth from $13.9 billion in 2016, according to Music Production & Publishing, a report recently released by Freedonia Focus Reports. Advances will be driven by global growth in disposable personal income levels. Gains will also be supported by ongoing stabilization as the industry emerges from a historical period characterized by technology-driven disruption. In addition, advances will continue to be driven by new releases from leading artists. This feat will be possible, despite the lower revenue generation potential of single-track digital sales, in light of CDs diminished market share. For perspective, revenues from CDs dropped 86% between 2006 and 2016. This report forecasts US music production and publishing industry revenue in US dollars to 2021.
