The city of New Orleans now holds the title of the most murders in the US. There have been more than 200 murders this year and it’s happening at a time when there is a dwindling police force of only 1000 officers, down from 1300 over the last couple of years.
The city holds more murders per capita than any other city including Chicago. Murders are up 141% since 2019. There are 52 homicides per 100,000 residents.
Last year St Louis held the distinction with 45 murders per 100,000 residents.
