This is growing old and tired. As a community we should be absolutely disgusted yet empowered to take action to at least curb the number of people being killed in the streets of Chicago and various other Black cities across the country.A 17-year-old Chicago rapper has been charged with murder in connection to the fatal shooting of a dispatch driver in Wentworth Gardens neighborhood of Chicago last month. Clint Massey, who goes by the name “RondoNumbaNine,” was charged and held with a $2 million bail at Cook County Bond Court Sunday.

The south side rapper, who is from the Chicago Englewood neighborhood, was allegedly one of two gunmen who fatally shot dispatch driver, Javan Boyd on February 22, 2014, according to Assistant State’s Attorney Robert Mack. Robert Mack also stated that Massey and another unnamed male drove to the 3700 block of South Princeton Avenue at about 4 a.m. on February 22, looking to retaliate for an earlier altercation that transpired with another individual. Javan Boyd, who was only 28 at the time of his murder, was sitting in his car waiting for a passenger when Massey and the co-offender approached the passenger side door, Mack said.

Robert Mack also said, witnesses saw Massey and the co-offender shoot into the vehicle with handguns. The State’s Attorney is also reporting that a portion of the incident was caught on video and they found RondoNumbaNine’s fingerprint on Boyd’s cab. Boyd was shot seven times during the crime and he was taken to John H.

Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County and was pronounced dead there at 5:45 a.m. on Feb. 22, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. According to Boyd’s aunt, Trina Boyd, who had been his guardian since his family was killed in a fire, said Javan was a good person and didn’t have any enemies that she knew of.

Whether Boyd was an outstanding citizen, gang member, or whatever, the killing needs to stop. Our condolences go out to his remaining family and friends.
