I won’t say a name here because I have a lot of respect for the people involved. There is an urban radio jock in a large market that is making a LOT of money and taking up a LOT of space on the airwaves that could go to someone half his age who is already VERY successful in the market who would be thrilled to make 1/4th the money. This vet is well-liked but he’s also well-DONE…. and PPM is SCREAMING it too. I don’t know why the corporation won’t find a way to HELP him retire and as many of you know, I am a local/community urban radio advocate. Unfortunately, in this situation, it’s not one of the old ass greedy syndicated hosts but it’s a local host. Just because I like local shows doesn’t mean just ANYBODY can do it. If you are older and you are not afraid to open the door to the young people entering the industry, I’m all for it but when you are older and you do anything to stay on top, including making a fool of yourself on the air by trying to relate to the hip hop community… we’ve got a problem. I won’t say who it is but you may have guessed. As Kenny Rodgers says in The Gambler song: “You’ve got to know when to hold em and know when to fold em.” It’s time for this jock to fold em. Either you go out with style and class or you wait until you are asked to leave. Which will it be?

I’m sure you’re referring to the D.C. market…I won’t say his name either…but agree w/you 100% ๐
