Chucky Thompson, the Washington D.C. native who helped to put Bad Boy on the map had died. He came on board at the inception of Bad Boy through connections when Diddy (Puff Daddy) had been fired from Uptown and was starting the Bad Boy imprint and he was behind many of the labels megahits like “Big Poppa” and Mary J Blige’s 2nd album “My Life.”

He got his start in DC playing congas for Go-Go group Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers.

He was an expert at taking samples from previous R&B hits by artists like the Isley Brothers and Rick James and reimagining them into stellar production spreads for Bad Boy artists.

He had a musical versatility unmatched by many producers and he was also a great writer.

He was the initial part of the Bad Boy in-house team that included Easy Mo Bee and Rashad Smith. He also had hits with New Edition, Tevin Campbell, TLC, Juvenile, and Busta Rhymes.

Thompson also produced tracks on a new album coming from Diddy “Off the Grid” on his new imprint Love records coming in Sept. Thompson also wrote a documentary about the Tuskeegee airman that aired on the History Channel.

Thomson allegedly died after a reported battle with COVID-19.
