David Banks Addresses National Council on Black Education

David Banks, principal and founder of New York City’s Eagle Academy will address the National Council on Educating Black Children (NCEBC) on Saturday, November 7, 2009.

“School systems across the country face extraordinary challenges in educating male students of color,” said Mr. Banks. “I look forward to sharing Eagle’s success in moving teens in troubled communities toward graduation and into universities and colleges across the nation.”

This weekend’s NCEBC meeting will discuss how to employ effective methods tailored to ensure that male students maximize their academic potential as well as discuss how schools can develop rituals and traditions that can build a sense of community and instill a sense of pride in their students. Creating and defining a distinctive school culture is imperative to the overall social development of students.

Delegates will participate in developing a Blueprint for Educating Black Male Students in their city. Connecting the dots from village to village will lead to improving the graduation rate for Indiana high schools and Indiana colleges.

The conference will be held at the Christian Theological Seminary at 100 West 42nd Street in Indianapolis.
