Mechanic Crushed to Death After Car He was Fixing Collapses (video)

A 66-year-old man was crushed by a car he was fixing. According to Cherokee County Coroner Scott Fowler, while working under his Dodge Charger, the South Carolina man was killed when it slipped and fell off the tracks, crushing him. An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday.

66-year-old Thomas Dwayne Frederickson of Gaffney was named as the victim.

In a news release by Fowler, the coroner said that the tragic accident happened Thursday evening at Frederickson’s home in the 4000 block of Wilkinsville Highway. Gaffney, the peach capital of South Carolina, is located about 55 miles southwest of Charlotte.

“Mr. Frederickson was found trapped under the Dodge Charger by family members at 6:47 p.m.,” Fowler said. “He was extricated by EMS and fire department personnel. Efforts to revive him were futile, and Frederickson was pronounced dead at the scene.”

While Frederickson was working on the drive shaft, he balanced the rear of the vehicle atop two jacks, said investigators.

“Something caused the vehicle to move, knocking it off the jack stands,” Fowler said.

To provide authorities with more information, an autopsy will be done on the victim Friday, Sept. 23.
