Drejka Charged with Manslaughter in Stand Your Ground Case

The man accused of killing Markeis McGlockton in a shooting this past month in Florida was arrested today for Manslaughter. The shooting has reignited a debate over Florida’s controversial stand your ground law. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office took Michael Drejka into custody this morning with a $100,000 bail.

Drejka is the man who was pushed to the ground in the Florida convenience store shooting last month while arguing with a woman over a handicapped parking space. When the woman’s boyfriend, Markeis McGlockton, came out of the store a brief confrontation took place where McGlockton pushed Drejka to the ground and Drejka pulling a gun and fatally shooting McGlockton. “It’s about time,” said McGlockton’s father, Michael McGlockton, adding that he was ecstatic. “This is exactly what I wanted. This is exactly what me and my family wanted was to get this guy behind bars.”After examining the tape Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney Bernie McCabe determined that Drejka could not use the Stand Your Ground law because he was not in imminent danger.

Once he pulled the guy McGlockton is backing up and trying to exit the situation. Drejka fires the fatal shot anyway.
