RUFUS WAINWRIGHT SIGNS GLOBAL DEAL WITH BMG FOR UPCOMING NEW STUDIO ALBUM

Award-winning, critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter and composer Rufus Wainwright has signed a new global recordings agreement with BMG to release his upcoming studio album. His ninth album of original material, and first with BMG, follows his last full-length release, Out Of The Game, in 2012.Wainwright’s new studio album is a return to form and described as his ‘most accessible album to date’. Serving as the bookend to his acclaimed self-titled debut, that garnered widespread critical acclaim, Wainwright’s 20+ year career has found him develop from one of music’s most promising musical talents to one of its greatest singer-songwriters.Said Wainwright, “Excited to join the BMG family. Musically, he has collaborated with a wide range of artists including Elton John, David Byrne, Boy George, Joni Mitchell, Pet Shop Boys, Robbie Williams, and producer Mark Ronson among others.A pioneer of incorporating operatic, classical melodic and orchestral thinking into songwriting, Wainwright’s name appears regularly as an inspiration for younger talent from Perfume Genius to Father John Misty. He is revered for his unique talent by the most accomplished songwriters of all time ranging from Burt Bacharach to Elton John. His much-acclaimed first opera, Prima Donna, premiered at the Manchester International Festival and was subsequently performed in London at Sadler’s Wells, in Toronto at the Luminato Festival and at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Howard Gilman Opera House. Wainwright has since been commissioned by the Canadian Opera Company to write his second opera, the Dora Award-winning ‘Best New Opera’, Hadrian, based on the story of the Roman Emperor Hadrian and Antinous.
