Kenny’s Music, a notable guitar retailer in Scotland, is set to re-emerge under the ownership of Vista Musical Instruments following its closure in October 2025. The acquisition includes the brand’s intellectual property, assets, and goodwill, signaling a new phase for the retailer that once had a strong presence in Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen, and Dunfermline.
Despite a history of strong sales, Kenny’s Music was unable to sustain operations amid challenging conditions for physical music retailers in the UK. This trend was echoed globally, as many guitar stores faced similar fates, including well-known UK retailers GAK and PMT, and the US-based Sam Ash. The closure of Kenny’s Music highlighted the ongoing difficulties in the brick-and-mortar retail segment of the music industry.
Vista Musical Instruments has outlined a strategic approach for revitalizing Kenny’s Music, focusing on digital transformation through a new online platform, personalized gear services, and access to global brands. This digital-first strategy suggests a shift away from physical retail locations, aligning with recent industry trends where companies like Sam Ash have transitioned to online-only operations. The acquisition positions Vista Musical Instruments, a subsidiary of Caldecott Music Group, to leverage its existing portfolio of music brands and media outlets to enhance Kenny’s Music’s market presence.
