Phil Michaels-Trueba, Hot 105 Miami PD stated it best on his FaceBook Page… about the death of David Hamilton aka EZ Street, (not to be confused with the EZ Street in DC radio)
I am sitting here at my desk staring at this keyboard numb. I was just informed that David “EZ Street” Hamitlon passed away today. EZ (as he was known on the radio) was the first on air talent I ever hired on my first PD job when we signed on WPYO – Orlando, FL in 1999. From the moment I heard his aircheck (audition tape) I was mesmerized. He was so talented and so freakin’ crazy but I loved it everytime he was on the radio. You never knew what EZ was going to do next. I remember him always getting intro trouble and then he’d come into my office and say “I know, I messed up, I’m sorry Phil but that was funny”. He was like a little kid always causing mischief. We connected because we both had that strong crazy passion for radio. I always said, “EZ was the best jock I ever heard on the radio and I would put him up against anybody but he was a pain in my ass”!!!!! I loved that guy. He had an ear for good radio and a great ear for great talent. I remember the day he brought me Lil’ Shawn (now a morning radio superstart at WPYO). He just knew this kid was going to be a star. I watched him mentor and develop Shawn. He was like a big brother to him. After I fired him, we kept in touch through the years. He’d always call me for advice on his career and life. I last spoke with EZ about 3 or 4 years ago. He was so happy to talk to me. He asked me for forgiveness for all of the headaches and drama he caused me and told me I was a great influence and mentor in his life. He told me he admired me and I told him I admired him and his talent. He was a proud dad and I told him I was looking forward to that moment when I had that blessing. He missed being on the radio but was involved with a talent agency and fashion. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Life is short man. You have to live your days like they’re your last. I can’t believe EZ Street is gone. RIP bro. I thank you for all of the lessons I’ve learned managing and mentoring you and I thank you for blessing my first radio station WPYO in Orlando, FL with your talents. God bless your soul and your family. Love you bro. I know he’s causing mischief in Heaven right now.”
