35K Scam: Miami Couple Charged for Defrauding Homeowner

Homeowner Scammed by Fake Contractors

A Miami man, John Thomas, hired a couple posing as contractors for a major renovation project on his home. He paid them $135,000 in September 2022. However, 18 months later, his house remains gutted, and the contractors disappeared after cashing the down payment.

Arrest and Investigation

A criminal investigation led to the arrest of 34-year-old Luis Identitarian and 33-year-old Maria Rosales Solorzano. The duo is accused of being unlicensed and spending the money instead of completing the work.

Impact on the Victim

John Thomas, an Air Force member with a security clearance, faces significant repercussions. The incomplete renovations and financial loss threaten his job security and could lead to foreclosure on his home.

Warning to the Public

Miami police emphasize the importance of thoroughly researching and verifying contractors’ licenses to avoid falling victim to such scams. They believe there may be more victims targeted by the same couple.
