AUSTIN, TX (11.07.16) – On Monday evening, Miss HT kicked off her year of events related to raising cancer awareness in the African American community with her Breast Health 101 panel. The four panelists, three of them breast cancer survivors, and one who lost their mother to an aggressive form of cancer, shared their stories of trial and tribulation. Each one provided a unique take on their lives through their initial diagnosis and treatment.

We had a woman in attendance who is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer and last night was her first support group/informational meeting. There were students who expressed a need for grief support, as they have lost loved ones to cancer. It was truly a great way to begin the conversation here on campus, and to learn more about signs, symptoms and how to be an advocate for yourself.

Thank you Susan G. Komen Austin, and the Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department for your participation.
