ASCAP Adds Telehealth Services for Music Creators

ASCAP has announced a significant expansion of its member benefits through a partnership with MDLIVE, aimed at addressing the unique healthcare needs of music creators. This new telehealth service offers ASCAP members 24/7 access to board-certified doctors and mental health counselors, allowing them to receive care without the constraints of traditional office hours. Members can consult healthcare professionals via video or phone, providing a convenient solution for health issues that may arise while on the road or during studio sessions.

The integration of MDLIVE into the ASCAP Wellness Program, which was launched in 2019, underscores the organization’s commitment to supporting the mental and physical health of its members. This initiative was designed to combat the high rates of depression, anxiety, and physical strain often experienced by those in the music industry. The addition of telehealth services complements existing benefits, which include discounted online therapy through BetterHelp, meditation and sleep support subscriptions with Calm, and access to affordable health insurance via Stride Health.

ASCAP’s efforts to enhance wellness for its members align with broader industry trends, as other organizations also expand their support for creators. Spotify has recently introduced its Heart & Soul initiative, which includes a 24/7 mental health and crisis support line tailored for the music community. These initiatives reflect a growing recognition of the importance of mental health and wellness in the creative professions, transforming the traditional narrative of the ‘starving artist’ into a more sustainable model that prioritizes support and care for creators.
