Spotify Highlights Australian Music’s Global Rise

Spotify has released its Australian Music Global Impact List, marking a significant milestone for Australian artists who are increasingly making their mark on the global stage. For the first time, the list features a Top 50 ranking, showcasing the Australian tracks that have generated the most significant global impact on Spotify outside of Australia throughout the 2025 calendar year. This development underscores a notable shift in how Australian music reaches international listeners, with global streams of local artists increasing by 69% since 2020.

Leading the charge is Sia, who has made history by becoming the first artist to top Spotify’s Global Impact List on two occasions. Her collaboration with David Guetta, titled “Beautiful People,” emerged as the most-streamed Australian song internationally in 2025. Tame Impala also made a strong showing, with seven tracks from their album “Deadbeat” landing in the Top 50, including the hit “Dracula,” which secured the second position. The Kid LAROI further demonstrated his global appeal by placing seven tracks on the list, including his collaboration with Tate McRae, “I know love,” which ranked third.

The list highlighted the emergence of new talent, with artists like Lithe and kiki wera securing top placements, illustrating the growing diversity within the Australian music scene. The impact of remix culture was also evident, as tracks like The Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition” enjoyed renewed success through a remix, emphasizing the evolving landscape of music consumption driven by algorithmic discovery and social media.

Spotify’s data illustrates a shifting geography for Australian music exports, with the United States remaining the most significant market, followed by the UK and Germany. However, emerging markets such as South Africa and the Philippines are showing rapid growth, indicating a diversification of global demand. This trend signifies a transformation in the way music is consumed and shared, with streaming platforms like Spotify serving as critical export channels for Australian artists.
