The year is off to a fast start… sources are reporting that Radio One has settled the dispute with Steve Hegwood and Extreme Media by getting the FM translator as damages. WHAT IN DE FOOK? The mysterious “Streetz 102.9″ appeared on Atlanta’s dial for several days last April but then disappeared as the legal battle between its operator and Radio One was just heating up (see court docs here). Radio One sued Extreme Media, which was owned by former Radio One ops manager Steve Hegwood and eight-year Atlanta market manager Wayne Brown as well as Hegwood’s nephew, Keenan Heard. The company alleged Hegwood took specially-created mixes from the company’s Selector music library, as well as client lists, computer programs and contact sheets. The suit also claimed Hegwood violated terms of his non-compete agreement when he orchestrated Extreme’s deal to buy the translator (W275BK) from Radio Assist Ministry for $235,000 in August 2008 “” six months before he resigned as operations manager of Radio One’s Atlanta cluster. In its suit, Radio One claimed he “actively concealed
his role in what would be a competing station. Among the terms of the settlement reached two weeks ago, Extreme Media admits no wrongdoing but agrees to hand over its translator to Radio One. Hegwood also agrees to remain under a non-compete through June 16, although no similar dictate applies to Brown. Radio One tells the FCC it plans to simulcast a soon-to-launch HD2 format from urban AC “Magic 107.5″ WAMJ on the translator, and under the terms of the settlement that may happen before the closing occurs.
