Child Killed by Unsecured Gun at Home

Detroit police Chief James White holds a news conference about an 8-year-old girl at home with a 10-year-old boy, and they both found an unsecured gun. He states the kids should have been in school, but they were not, and there were no adults in the house at the time of the accidental shooting.

The mother discovered the injured child upon arriving home, and police are not sure who took the injured child to the hospital, whether it was the mother or a neighbor, but the child died.

The other child is a male and is being counseled and questioned about the incident.

The mother is now being investigated for child abuse, and police say there were questionable conditions in the home.
