Cameron Smith Receives 2020 CHRA Scholarship

Graves Business School

Cameron SmithThe regional Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) announced that Graves School of Business graduate student Cameron Smith has been awarded its 2020 Chesapeake Human Resources Association (CHRA) Scholarship. Currently pursuing his master’s degree in Human Resource Management, Smith also serves as president of Morgan State’s  SHRM Chapter.

Awarding only two student scholarships annually, CHRA honors rising scholars—one undergraduate and the other a graduate degree candidate—who demonstrate a commitment to the field of Human Resources, exhibits proven leadership ability, and is actively involved in CHRA or other HR related organizations.

“Thank you to CHRA for selecting me as the recipient of the 2020 Graduate Student Scholarship,” affirmed Cameron Smith, Graves School of Business School. “The investment into young and aspiring HR professionals’ education/career is important and sets the stage for even more success for honored recipients.”

Entries submitted by the applicants were subject to a critical committee judging. According to Tine Schmitt, director of College Relations for the CHRA, “the College Relations Committee received an unprecedented number of scholarship applications and had the challenging task of selecting just two, as all applicants were highly-qualified.”

Shedding additional insight on the impact local professional organizations and scholarships  have on high-performing, career-tracked students, Smith added, “The longevity of the scholarship program is also a testament to the mission of CHRA to ‘…empower the human resources community in their effort to drive business success.’ I am honored that CHRA has chosen to invest in me and my career in human resources.”

Seizing the opportunity to hone news skill sets and further develop their marketability in the HR vertical, several enterprising MSU students have formed the Morgan State’s SHRM Chapter at Morgan and have joined CHRA as student members. The student members include:

  • Laura Gamble, senior, majoring in Business Management
  • Shaniqua Knight, senior, majoring in Business Management
  • Divine Kandolo, junior, majoring in Business Management
  • Honghua Li, doctoral candidate, Human Resources
  • Tamika Mason, MBA candidate, Human Resources
  • Jared Phelps, senior, majoring in Sociology
  • Cameron Smith, MBA candidate, Human Resources
  • Donnell Taylor, MBA candidate, Human Resources

Congratulations to Cameron Smith and all of the aspiring HR pros from Morgan plotting professional careers in human resource management!
