Music Business News

Motown legend Martha Reeves’s manager, Chris Roe is soliciting the public asking her fans for donations in the amount of $55,000 (and possibly more) so that the music legend can get a star from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce for the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The window is closing on the opportunity for her.

The 81-year-old was to get a star that was offered to her a couple of years ago, but her former manager was overwhelmed with fundraising efforts and she was not able to meet the financial obligation. Now the window is closing.

Usually, the Hollywood star is paid for by a label or a company that the artist is connected to. Many people are unaware that the Hollywood star costs over $50,000.

Roe is asking for people to move fast as Reeves reaches the 60th anniversary of her first album with Motown “Come get these Memories.”

There is no word as to why or if Motown, which recently folded into Capitol records with several layoffs, will contribute or how much has been brought into the campaign at this point, as all donations go directly to Chris Roe on his website.

We are unsure why a GoFundMe was not set up where fans can see the amount raised at various points. Roe is asking for a minimum of $100.00 per donation.

Martha Reeves’s legacy is as a lead singer of Martha Reeves and the Vandellas with huge Motown hits like Dancing in the Streets and Heatwave.

If his fundraising efforts are successful, Roe will request another $25,000 for Reeves’ post-star reception. You can make donations here as a lead singer of Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. FYI, there is also a Black organization in Atlanta that started a couple of years ago that honors Black legends, like Reeves with a star on our own Walk of Fame.
