Julius Makes, a YouTube creator known for his eccentric electronic projects, has introduced the Cassette Streamer, a device that brings together the nostalgic charm of cassette tapes and cutting-edge streaming technology. The Cassette Streamer looks like a classic portable cassette player, complete with knobs, buttons, and a transparent front panel that reveals the tape as it plays.
To use it, simply insert a cassette, connect your smartphone via Bluetooth, and start a playlist. The device captures audio from the phone, converts it for the cassette deck, and records it onto the tape in real time. Once recorded, the tape is played back through an internal speaker, creating an authentic echo effect along with lo-fi distortion and a characteristic wobble that cassette tapes are known for.
The design features expanded tape paths, allowing the tape to visually extend beyond the cassette casing. This artistic twist is enhanced with brightly colored 3D-printed components. Custom electronics manage the audio stream from the phone, transforming it from stereo to mono for the cassette deck’s input.
