Looks like Radio One is continuing the efforts to have regional programmers. This week, WZAK and WENZ PD Kim Johnson was let go from Radio One’s Cleveland outlet for the two words that are becoming synonymous with the industry “Budget Cuts.” The Radio Station ‘s GM Chris Forgy will oversee the programming for now for both Radio Station s. Johnson also was the midday host and she will be replaced by weekender DJ Hitman until further notice. (Damn, a person with 3 jobs is STILL expendable?)

Kim Johnson, you are the best! Sometimes that’s not recognized until it’s gone. I wish you the best because you are the best and you will be just fine as Mary J Blige says in her song. Guess they want someone (Haz) who stimulates the women to call in using their “sexy” voice hoping to get a chance at “something”. Kim, go do your thang girl…you’re the best!
WZAK People in Charge: How can you expect your listeners to be loyal to you when you aren’t loyal to someone who has spent more than half of her life being loyal to you? Kim Johnson was genuine, warm and professional –all at the same time. To me, budget cuts mean laying off the people who were hired last–not some one who has worked hard and poured her life into your station.Kim–it is truly their loss – continue to hold your head up and keep that wonderful laugh. God has something much better planned for you.
She lost touch with the Hood, I had to tell KIM the story about how Radio One was really started. She didn’t give back to the real listeners. I sat in a meeting with her years ago trying to battle for airplay. I explained to her the need for more CLEAN underground artists-not just HOTT celebrities, she basically laughed us out the meeting!If she had supported us, we could have stopped her dismissal form Radio One, by pulling our music if they let her go.
