BOISE, Idaho — The New Year has officially arrived in Idaho, with thousands gathering for the 13th annual Idaho Potato Drop. Held in front of the state capitol building, the event marked the start of 2026 with energy and excitement.
Sean Hancock, a local attendee, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I love bringing in the new year with everybody in Boise. The energy’s insane.” This year is particularly significant, as it coincides with America’s 250th birthday, leading to a special fireworks display that honored the nation’s history and armed forces. Fifteen-year-old Theo Grant, a standout participant, shared his excitement about the event, saying, “Had more than a blast. It was the greatest time ever. I love competitions. It gets you amped up, and the crowd out here is amazing. Just what a great event, and skiing is my passion.”
