A naked man was killed after he knocked an elderly woman off her riding lawnmower. The man was fatally shot on Thursday afternoon, police said.
After attempting to pull the naked attacker off his wife, 67, the 25-year-old assailant attacked again, and the woman’s husband, 66, fetched his gun and shot him in the front yard of their home in Lizella, Georgia, according to a police report.
It is unclear if the attacker knew the couple. He was found nude with gunshot wounds to his chest.
The bizarre incident, which unfolded just before 5 p.m., is under investigation by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
A statement released by police said: “Deputies responded to a person assaulting a woman at an address in the 3700 block of Trophy Place.
“While in route deputies were advised that the suspect had been shot by the victim’s husband. Upon arrival deputies found a 25-year-old male of Lizella, in the front yard of the residence naked with gunshot wounds to the chest.
“It was reported that a 67-year-old female was on a riding mower cutting her grass when the naked male subject tackled her off the lawnmower.
“The 66-year-old male, husband of the victim, attempted to pull the suspect off his wife but was attacked by the suspect. The suspect then began attacking the female again and that is when the husband retrieved his firearm and shot the suspect.”
The woman is being treated for her injuries at Piedmont Hospital. The extent of her injuries is not clear, but her condition was described as “stable” by police. According to the police statement, her husband suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
At Atrium Health Hospital, where the 25-year-old man was taken, he was pronounced dead.
Although investigators haven’t publicly released the name, the deceased was identified as Tyler Wade McElhenney.
