Beyonce Inaugural Protest Shut Down

A petition to remove Beyonce from the upcoming Inauguration performance line up has been deleted from the “We The People” section of The White House’s official website. At https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petitions, citizens can create petitions to make their voices heard. It is described as a page where you can express “your voice in our government”. This week, the White House raised the threshold of required signatures for an official White House response from 25,000 to 100,000 after use of the website doubled in November and December of last year. Beyonce is currently scheduled to perform during the highly coveted Super Bowl half time slot, a Destiny’s Child reunion is in the works, she’s directed/executive produced an HBO documentary about her life, and a new solo album is in process. The protest petition was created by health advocate Laurie David, who believes Beyonce’s $50 million contract with Pepsi is in direct contrast with First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative which is dedicated to combating childhood obesity.A White House spokesperson stated that Inauguration performances are “not something the White House actually has jurisdiction over.”The 57th Presidential Inauguration takes place on January 21, 2013.
