Suspects Charged in Purse Snatching Scheme Targeting Elderly

Arrest and Charges

Three individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with a purse-snatching ring that targeted elderly women in National City, San Diego. The suspects, identified as 32-year-old Shan T Davis, 29-year-old Kenya Frazier, and 67-year-old Anthony Foster, are accused of stealing purses from women aged 64 to 89. They are currently being held without bail.

Victims and Modus Operandi

The suspects targeted elderly women, primarily of Asian and Filipino descent, as they exited grocery stores. The thefts occurred in National City and Mira Mesa. The defendants would wait for the victims to place their purses on the passenger seat of their cars while loading groceries. They would then quickly grab the purses and flee in a getaway car. Thankfully, none of the victims were physically harmed during the incidents.

Legal Proceedings

The three defendants face multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including robbery, theft from an elder, burglary, and receiving stolen property. They face potential prison sentences ranging from six to 17 years. Deputy District Attorney Scott Pero noted that Davis has a prior conviction for similar crimes in 2021.

Investigation and Evidence

National City police arrested Davis last week during a stakeout at a grocery store. Undercover officers had been monitoring shopping centers, leading to her arrest. Davis’s cell phone was seized and used to link her to the series of thefts.

Upcoming Court Date

All three defendants are scheduled to appear in court for a readiness hearing on June 24th at the downtown courthouse.
