V103’s Greg Street Addresses Literacy issues in Atlanta schools

WE NEED 2 READTeamwork makes DREAMS Work……$10,000 Scholarship(pictured Street with Jermaine Dupri and Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed)Atlanta’s V-103 Radio Personality, Greg Street, has created a reading program addressing our high school student’s literacy issues as well as leadership and teamwork. The program called We Need 2 Read will be open to all metro Atlanta high school students. The program requires senior students to create a team of five, consisting of a senior and four under classmen. Each team will be challenged to read books on their personal and career interest. Each team member will be required to write a one page report on each book their team reads.The team with the most books read and reports completed will be awarded a $10,000 scholarship. The senior of the winning team will receive $5000 for college, each under classmen will receive $1000 and the school of the winning team will receive $1,000. Winners will be announced May 5th, 2010. Newly elected Mayor of Atlanta, Kasim Reed has agreed to endorse the program. Greg has had several successful youth programs in the past. In 1999 Greg started a $10,000 scholarship fund that has been successful for 10 years in both Atlanta, GA. and Dallas, TX. This scholarship provides students with average grades (B/C average), a means to furthering their education. It also creates awareness to students that assistance is available to high school students who are motivated to continue their education. Greg’s other successful youth programs have included Essay contests, a drawing at Dream Jamboree with former Atlanta Mayor Bill Campbell, MVP Kids in the Atlanta Work Force Summer Program with Former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, reading challenges at various schools throughout Atlanta, Hittmenn dj’s/toyz n da hood and Street Academy/Operation Correct Start which provides summer camps, sleepover’s, after school programs, school supply give away’s and annual trips to the white house. Greg has encountered tremendous support from many in the music industry, athletes and business professionals such as, Jermaine Dupri, Polow Da Don, Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole, Van Jakes, Mike Vick, Block Ent, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Edwin Moses, Ludacris, Usher, Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Braves, Office Depot, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Boys and Girls Clubs, The YMCA, City Parks & Recreation centers and a host of others.Prepare yourself for something really extraordinary that encourages and helps prepare our future leaders, entrepreneurs, athletes, entertainers, etc. feel good about teamwork and knowledge at the same time.
