Variety Calls Shorr’s Debut Album “2019’s Best Freshman Country Effort”Entertainment One (“eOne”) is happy to announce an exclusive publishing deal with country artist Kalie Shorr via its joint venture with Vintern Songs. eOne’s Global President, Music Chris Taylor, says “We are blown away with the depth of Kalie’s songwriting ability and are already integrating her talent with our teams in Nashville and Los Angeles. NEON NABS US RIGHTS TO TOM HARPER’S WILD ROSE FROM ENTERTAINMENT ONE
WILD ROSE FEATURES A BREAKOUT PERFORMANCE BY JESSIE BUCKLEY AS ASPIRING COUNTRY MUSIC SINGERFILM WAS FINANCED BY eOne, BFI FILM FUND CREATIVE SCOTLAND AND FILM4. After an all-night negotiation, NEON is excited to announce it has nabbed US rights to Tom Harper’s WILD ROSE which premiered Saturday evening at Toronto International Film Festival to a rapturous standing ovation. The inspiring musical dramedy features a breakout performance by Jessie Buckley as aspiring country music singer Rose-Lynn Harlan who dreams of leaving her dreary life in Glasgow for America's country music capital, Nashville. Faye Ward produced the film via her Fable Pictures banner and it was financed by Entertainment One (eOne), BFI Film Fund, Creative Scotland and Film4. The film stars Jessie Buckley in a dazzling performance as Rose-Lynn, the always incredible Julie Walters as Rose’s mother and Sophie Okonedo as Rose’s very lovely, very posh employer. With an adept hand, Tom Harper directs Nicole Taylor’s beautifully complicated, nuanced screenplay, written as a love letter to her hometown of Glasgow. Natascha Wharton, Leslie Finlay, Alison Owen, Xavier Marchand and Polly Stokes executive produced the film. eOne will distribute the film directly across its footprint, including Canada and plans to release the film in the U.K. in February of 2019. WILD ROSE tells the complicated story of Rose-Lynn, a woman on a quest to become a country music star, while also grappling with the responsibilities of being recently released from prison and a young mother of two children. NEON says, “We were absolutely blown away by the stunning performances of this almost-all female cast. For us, the story is about so much more than the incredible music - it examines the sometimes-conflicting relationships between mothers and their children and explores the realities of pursuing one’s dreams in the face of responsibility.” They added, “NEON couldn’t be more excited to introduce these characters and Jessie Buckley to audiences." The domestic deal was negotiated by NEON with CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group on behalf of the filmmakers. International sales of the film are being handled by eOne’s Sierra/Affinity who will distribute to the rest of the world outside of eOne territories.
DATARI TURNER & THE BLACKHOUSE FOUNDATION PARTNER WITH FACEBOOK TO LAUNCH 'SEEN' PROGRAM FOR DIVERSE FILMMAKERSVariety announced yesterday that film and television producer Datari Turner and the Blackhouse Foundation have partnered with Facebook's Creative Shop to launch "SEEN," a program that provides underrepresented filmmakers with the tools they need to build digital marketing campaigns using Facebook products and services. A Boy. A Girl. A Dream, fresh off its Sundance premiere last month, was selected as SEEN's flagship film. The campaign for the film increased its Facebook following from 100 to over 50,000 and generated nearly 38,000 shares. Additionally, the ads reached nearly 17M people and earned almost 16M unique video views. A Boy producer Turner calls the campaign "groundbreaking" and adds that it helps reduce the cost of marketing a film. Read more here. On the heels of June’s biggest increase in six years, MTV announced a new summer slate featuring “Siesta Key,” a return to the ultimate summer soap from the producers of “Laguna Beach” (FIRST LOOK AT TRAILER AND CAST); “Win Big” (working title), a live game show that sees Rob Dyrdek give away $100,000 to help young people fulfill lifelong dreams; and “Catfish: Trolls,” an investigative vehicle that chronicles internet trolls. The lineup showcases five new series and four returning hits.
With an emphasis on youth culture, the network is doubling down on its programing targeted to coming of age moments and stories, and fun, topical content that celebrates the intersection of music and pop culture.
“By embracing a new generation of young people, we are seeing record ratings increases at MTV and our new summer slate will fuel this growth,” said Chris McCarthy, President of MTV, VH1 and Logo.
Building on the network’s reinventions of “Fear Factor” and “Wild ‘N Out,” MTV saw June up +12% in share and +3% in ratings – the first time June was up YoY since 2011 (P18-34). July to-date is up +15% from YAGO and +21% in share, pacing to be the first July with YoY growth since 2013. “Fear Factor” was the network’s highest-rated premiere in two years and “Wild ‘N Out” was up +92% vs. prior season average (P18-34). Additionally, teen-targeted series continue to bring young viewers back to the network with “Promposal” and a reimagined “My Super Sweet 16”.

A new comedy series, MTV’s “SafeWord” is where famous friends become famous frenemies, all for a laugh. From the producers of “Lip Sync Battle” and hosted by Terrence J, the season will feature high profile talent like Kevin Hart, Damien Dante Wayans, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Marlon Wayans, Kelly Rowland, LaLa Anthony, Amber Rose, Ross Butler and Justin Prentice, Lil Rel Howery and more. In each episode, celebrity guests will partner with comedians to play games in front a live audience. In a friendly roast, the celebs are tasked with taking the heat, but can stop the pain using a “safeword.”

In each episode of this dating experiment, MTV brings together two strangers who must undress each other before getting to know one another for the next thirty minutes, answering questions and performing simple challenges – all designed to test whether or not romance can blossom. At the end, each partner must press a YES/NO button to decide if he or she wants to continue the fledgling relationship or say goodbye.
