Boy Found Dead in Buffalo Attic After Four Years

he tragic story of 12-year-old Jaylen Griffin, whose body was found in the attic of a South Buffalo home, has deeply affected the community and his grieving family. Jaylen had been missing since August 4, 2020, and was last seen walking from his home near the Central Terminal to a store on Broadway. Nearly four years later, just days before what would have been his 16th birthday, police discovered his remains in a property marked by suspicious activities and a history of complaints from neighbors.

The discovery has been a devastating revelation, particularly for Jaylen’s grandmother, Shirley Banks, who has been vocal about seeking justice. In a heartfelt appeal, expressed a small sense of relief that her grandson’s body was found, turning her attention to those responsible for his death. She poignantly questions why anyone would harm a child, underscoring the senselessness of the act.

As Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia confirmed that the investigation is now considered a homicide case, the community and law enforcement are urging anyone with information to come forward. A reward has been posted, and there is a collective call to remember Jaylen not for the tragic circumstances of his death but as the good kid he was, remembered for his smile and the positive memories he left behind.

The community is preparing for a memorial vigil to honor Jaylen, providing a space for mourning and remembrance, and to rally communal support for ongoing efforts to find answers and justice for Jaylen Griffin.
