Big Truck Announce Debut Album ‘midday at the Middleway’ and New Single ‘collided’

Big Truck’s debut album rollout matters now because Laurie Vincent’s new project is already moving with a full-band identity, a set release date, and live dates attached, giving publishers and rights holders a clear new catalog and performance window to watch. The band have announced Midday At The Middleway alongside the new single Collided, following Central Reservation Blues as the first preview from the record.

Laurie Vincent’s new band steps out with a full album campaign

Big Truck is the new band formed by Soft Play’s Laurie Vincent. He is joined by Sam Coppins on drums, Asa Thallon on guitar, and Justin Myles on keys. Their debut album, Midday At The Middleway, is set to arrive on August 28 via Marshall Records, and it is available to pre-order and pre-save.

The album follows the previously released Central Reservation Blues, which NME described as the first taste of the forthcoming record. The new single, Collided, is described as a waltzy post-punk track and one of Vincent’s favorites from the album.

Vincent says the band setup let his writing breathe

Vincent said his musicianship is “quite untrained” and that he did not realize he was writing Collided in 6/8 time. He said that kind of detail has been allowed to come through on the record because Big Truck is a full band, and Sam Coppins’ jazz background helps those moments work.

Coppins also praised Vincent, saying Collided was “a snapshot into how good Laurie is” and that it “scratches the surface of what he is going to reveal as a result of this project.”

The record arrives with a defined tracklist and live run

Midday At The Middleway includes 11 tracks: Feel Me?…; Central Reservation Blues; Polyester Vibrations (and the Handstand Currency); Surf The Suffering; Collided; Head So Full (algae riddim); Rebounder; Dress For All Weathers; Interlude; Heavensent; and Keep On Trucking.

Big Truck said the project is built around Vincent and Coppins’ longtime friendship. The two met through the Tunbridge Wells music scene 20 years ago. The band are also preparing to play a series of live dates in the coming months, including shows on June 19 and 20.

What to watch next: Big Truck’s first live dates this week, followed by the August 28 release of Midday At The Middleway and the full run of summer shows that continue through August 1.
