Armed Robber Arrested After Employee’s Brave Defense

Armed Robbery Incident

A dramatic incident unfolded at a Chick-fil-A in Gwinnett County when an armed robber smashed through the drive-thru window. The suspect, identified as 53-year-old Tommy Lee Williams, threatened an employee, Kevin Blair, with a gun, demanding he open the safe.

Employee’s Quick Thinking and Self-Defense

Kevin Blair, an inventory director at the restaurant, utilized his more than two years of self-defense and karate training to fend off the attacker. Blair’s quick thinking and focus on keeping the gun pointed away from him were crucial. He employed self-defense techniques, including a thumb to the eye, to disarm and incapacitate the robber.

Arrest of the Suspect

During the struggle, Blair managed to remove the suspect’s mask, aiding the Gwinnett police in identifying Williams. The police, along with Gwinnett County sheriff’s deputies and the US Marshals, arrested Williams. The suspect, a convicted felon, now faces multiple charges, including armed robbery.

Blair’s Reflections

Blair credits his self-defense training for saving his life during the terrifying ordeal. He emphasized the importance of being prepared and having the skills to protect oneself in dangerous situations.
