Black Jesus: New Live-Action Series from Aaron McGruder

Adult Swim Greenlights Black JesusNew Live-Action Series from Boondocks creator, Aaron McGruder to Premiere this Year
Adult Swim has announced that they have greenlit a new half-hour live-action scripted comedy called Black Jesus from award-winning writer/producer, Aaron McGruder (The Boondocks, Red Tails). The show finds Jesus living in present day Compton, CA on a daily mission to spread love and kindness throughout the neighborhood with the help of his small but loyal group of downtrodden followers. The series stars newcomer Gerald “Slink” Johnson (Grand Theft Auto V) as Black Jesus, and also stars Charlie Murphy (Are We There Yet), Corey Holcomb (The Cleveland Show), and John Witherspoon (The Boondocks, The First Family).

Productionhas begun on the new series in Los Angeles, CA, which will premiere later this year. McGruder, who created the series, will serve as executive producer through his 5 Mutts Productions along with writer/director Mike Clattenberg (Trailer Park Boys) and LEG’s Norman Aladjem and John Bravakis. Adult Swim (AdultSwim.com), launched in 2001, is Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.’s network offering original and acquired animated and live-action series for young adults.

Airing nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. (ET/PT), Adult Swim is basic cable’s #1 network with persons 18-34 and 18-49, and is seen in 99 million U.S. homes. Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., a Time Warner company, creates and programs branded news, entertainment, animation and young adult media environments on television and other platforms for consumers around the world.
