Man Shot in the Leg During Foot Chase in NYC (VIDEO)

A man was shot in the leg during a foot chase in Brooklyn. An NYPD police officer opened fire on a suspect who grabbed his waist and turned toward him. On Thursday night, the NYPD officer chased the man down on foot and shot him.

The suspect was wanted in connection with a shooting earlier that day. Just after 9:30 p.m., two officers were investigating a double shooting at Kosciuszko Street and Broadway. During an early Friday press conference, Chief of Patrol Jeffrey Maddrey said that they “engaged” the man after spotting the suspect nearby.

The man began to run, and the police then chased him. While chasing the man, one of the officers opened fire when the man “turn towards them” and grabbed his waist, said Maddrey. Two shots were fired at the suspect.

One hit him in the leg, but he continued to run. The patrol chief said the suspect eventually ran into an apartment building on Patchen Avenue. Before the suspect was able to make his way into the apartment, police were able to get into the building and apprehend the suspect.

The suspect was hospitalized. Maddrey said the two males at the apartment he was trying to break into were taken in for questioning. As of Friday, a gun had not been recovered.

The suspect was believed to be connected to a shooting earlier that left two men injured. Police said the victims were hospitalized with gunshot wounds and are expected to recover. Police had already made an arrest in the same shooting before the chase, Maddrey said.

That suspect was armed with a gun, police said.
