OK, I know as a GROUP black urban radio and industry people have to act like this doesn’t exist but on your own you probably think more realistically and you know it does. Shit we work in the fooking music industry there are gay and bi black people IN THIS INDUSTRY reading this right now. Terrell Carter is the actor who played the preacher in the tyler perry film Why Did I get Married (I think that was the movie, I’m not a big tyler perry movie fan). At any rate, his Latin ex is pissed at him and decided to out him on his twitter page with pictures (below) that Terrell was well aware of that were being taken. The pictures were all over the blogs last week and I decided not to run it until I saw this video today. Terrell has the classic DL syndrome, acting hard, using hip hop lingo, slapping his fist into his hand while he talks and even talking about what kind of women he likes and wants to marry (laugh, I have such a dark sense of humor) THEN HE TAKES THESE PICTURES OF THEM TOGETHER IN BED! (WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH, what in the FOOK was that? Oh, it was the logic train, somebody MISSED it!!!!) He can sing his ass off but I doubt it will be in another Tyler Perry film. Now that Terrell’s been busted, he’s turning to Jesus and black church people for salvation (give me a break). He’s going to the same people who make him hide who he really is for salvation? Perhaps they will do a gay exorcism on him now. Notice the hat pulled over his face and the quick exit off the stage as if he is still hiding. For the life of me I don’t know if I will ever understand black culture.

This is not really a big deal. There are so many key players in the industry who are gay but because of the industry they live a double life. Unitl the society as a whole accepts gay men and women we will continue to see situations like this.
Who cares if hes gay? Its not like he wrote this song. This is for a show…not his.
I think if your gay you should be gay but you dont have to broadcast it to everyone. Its on a need to know basis. People if you arent the one thats in his bed it shouldnt matter who is…..
Women, if you get a feeling like he is DL, then dont go there until you know for sure.
Men, be men, even if you sleep with one.
Oh and i say that because I believe i got caught up and slept with a gay man, or a DL brother. But even after i asked and he denied i had the feeling…. but i made a choice to believe him.. silly me.
You know, I don’t have a problem with gays but I must it admit, that I do have a visceral, retching reaction when I see 2 men kiss. Sorry, I just do :0(
Only God can JUDGE.
Only in a perfect world
what’s the big deal if he is gay! I mean come on everyone is entitle to be with who ever they want to be with. Rather if its men w/ men woman/woman or whatever! love is love and it comes however it wants to come
Hey Tonya, why don’t you stop broadcasting your heterosexuality to everyone. You know, talking about your bf or husband or who you’re dating or who you find attractive. Gay people have the same right to do those things as straight people do. The same crap straight people take for granted is called broadcasting when gay people do it.
Terrell Carter will be JUST fine!!! He will still sing and act in Tyler’s plays. Im sooo sick of people criticizing Terrell Carter, where the F*ck is the outrage with this ex??? The ex is using homophobia as a vehicle to hurt someone career and reputation. This ONLY reinforces that there is something “wrong” with being gay!!! but then gays turn around and want their lifestyle to be accepted!! So, IF people truly stop supporting this brotha because he is gay, dont turn around and criticize str8 people for it!!! This ex just set a movement back a few steps!!!
To Tonya and Darryl ,
It is a sad commentary when we as gay people have to use outing someone for revenge to hurt someone else to make a point. But, have you consider why Terrell’s -ex did what he did? Much like straight people(which I assume the two of you are) we get hurt and we retaliate like everyone else. The goal is to ruin the person’s reputation and livelihood; which it doesn’t make it right, it’s just a statement of fact. We’re no different than straight people when it comes down to a thin line between love and hate. But, consider the fact that Terrell is using the DL platform to advance in his career and to market himself as straight in a industry that builds on and creates fantasies for the opposite sex. It’s not prudent for him to be himself and try to build on a career in a land of image makers. Therefore, the more he’s with his ex-bf, the harder for the industry to capitalize on his image as a masculine, singing croonig semi-thug. So as a result, it becomes frustrating for everyone in the relationship; also a lot a pressure put on Terrell to leave his boyfriend and concentrate on his new found career and image. In a since, Terrell is a victim of his own success and societies views on homosexuality; which in a lot of ways, is stigmatized by the black church and Hollywood at large; for they are the star image makers. So we as gay people can not possibly change our own image by ourselves as long as there are groups of people in the communities, (i.e. the black church) and society at large, don’t also help change their views as well on how gay people are perceived. It takes a village to raise one child; and we are also the children in the village! We can’t do it alone. So please don’t judge us so harshly. There are bad gay people as well as good gay people. Just like there are straight people;good and bad. Please try not to lump us all into one category. That’s not only stereotying gays, but it also stereotypes all straight people as being homophobic. As for the “need to know basis”, Tonya, we’re trying to come out of the closet , not stay in! That way we will feel free to be ourselves and who we really are and you as a women won’t make mistakes in playing the guessing game on whether or not your man is on the DL. We want the same rights and priviledges as everyone else. To be who we are and not hide are true identities. We shouldn’t have to be ashamed of our lifestyle and hide it only for the bedroom. Is your sexuality confined only to the bedroom? We also want to be who we are as a people.
OK so he may be gay. So what. If so; hes a gay man that played a straight roll. Okay, that;s what he is supposed to do. he is an actor and he did well. His Ex needs to get over. If he is gay, he should date a gay celebrity and not one of these thirsty no bodies. Advice: Have the next person you date sign a document stating if they try to pull stunts like this they will be fined a million dollars and im dead ass serious. also , stay away from any one that comes from and island. ( in other words No Latins, Jamaican, Puerto Ricans, French none of them. They are crazy.) I’m serious. and lastly, Who cares?! God bless.
i dnt blame the “black culture” for him hiding the fact that hes gay!!! i think he did it based off his own insecurities and to market his audience…think about it…his biggest following was women!!! cuz they all wanted to be with him!!! i think this was more of a business market/ insecurity thing rather than the “black church” tryna keep him down and make him hide…theres plenty of openly gay black people and they love it! so the cause of it being hidden is obviously not the “black culture”
Why does he have to be GAY, your so fine. Your plays r good and i will pray for u and i hope u see the real picture.
Therein lies the dilemma. If you’re a good looking, masculine man, it is assumed that you are straight especially in the African American community. The largest buying audience for Terrell would be women, majority being black.
It’s all about the fantasy. I think it’s time though to challenge the notion that an artist must be heterosexual if they want to make it in the music/entertainment industry. I don’t think being a married person is the taboo it used to be for those in this business. I think eventually this issue of homosexuality will change. I would like to give black folk the benefit of the doubt and not group them in a box. I know there’s some “enlightened” black people out there who really don’t care. If it’s not your bed he’s in, it’s really none of our business yet society loves to dig into the personal life forcing those to lie so they can make a living in the arts.
It seems like the author of this post is kinda racist.
If the guy is gay, he is gay. The Bible says that thou should not judge. People wonder why gay people wont come out of the closet. It is this same hypocritical shit right here. I dont think that no one should judge another individual based on his or her preferences. I will be praying for this young and handsome actor, as he go through the many hardships that he will face. If anyone has a problem with gays, please write me back, because I always have something to say, and I will always win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for the ex, you dumb ass motherfucker, it will come back on you. Pay back is a bitch!
terrell carter is toooooooooooo goodlooking to be gay!!!!!!!!!!!!ya digg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!he to much of a man to be like gay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11whoever he go with he lucky cuz he fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!terrell much love but homie change ur ways!!!!!thats real, real talk!!!!!!
