Houston Rapper Big Pokey Dies After Onstage Fall in Beaumont

This past weekend, Milton Powell, also known as Big Pokey, a well-known rapper from Houston, tragically passed away after a sudden and alarming onstage fall that ultimately claimed his life. The incident occurred at a bar located in the neighboring city of Beaumont late Saturday night. A video of the incident has been circulating, capturing the moment when Big Pokey, standing on what appears to be a two-story stage, was engaged in a performance with a microphone in his hand and interacting with a DJ.

Out of nowhere, Big Pokey released a heavy breath into the microphone and unexpectedly began to lose his balance, falling backward and losing consciousness as he hit the stage hard. The sudden turn of events was unsettling for the onlookers. Initially, some in the crowd seemed to treat it lightly, with a few snickers audible.

However, it quickly became apparent that something was seriously wrong, and panic ensued as those around him rushed to his aid, realizing he was not regaining consciousness. A woman, identifying herself as a nurse, hurried to his side in an attempt to provide medical assistance, while others fanned air and made efforts to revive him. Sadly, their efforts proved unsuccessful, and emergency medical services arrived at the scene shortly after midnight.

Big Pokey was subsequently transported to a hospital, but despite their best efforts, he passed away. The exact cause of his death remains unclear at this time. Big Pokey’s representative has confirmed his unfortunate demise through a statement, which reads as follows: “It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Milton ‘Big Pokey’ Powell.”They added, “Big Pokey passed away.

He was well-loved by his family, his friends, and his loyal fans. In the coming days, we will release information about his celebration of life and how the public can pay their respects. We ask that you respect his family and their privacy during this difficult time.

Big Pokey will forever be ‘The Hardest Pit in the Litter!'”Fellow Houston rapper Bun B expressed his heartfelt condolences through an online post, sharing the following words: “I wasn’t ready for this. One of the most naturally talented artists in the city. Low key, humble mountain of a man who moved with honor and respect.

He was easy to love and hard to hate. He’d pull up, do what he had to do and head home. One of the pillars of our city.

If heart of gold was a person. Iconic member of the SUC. There will never be another and will be missed dearly.

We love and honor you Sensei. Rest in heaven.”Pokey’s impact on the local music scene was immense, as he initially rose to prominence through collaborations with DJ Screw, playing a significant role in the launch of the widely popular chopped-and-screwed style of the South. His contributions to numerous projects over the years solidified his status as a Houston legend.
