South Central hip-hop star ScHoolboy Q (Quincey Matthew Hanley) announced the launch of his “Blank Face World Tour,” marking the July 8th release of his new Top Dawg Entertainment/Interscope album of the same name, for an extensive world tour. Starting August 30 in Indianapolis, the tour runs across North America, onto Australia and Europe and ends December 15 in Birmingham, UK. A full itinerary is listed below.
Blank Face LP is ScHoolboy Q’s follow-up to his 2014 major label debut, Oxymoron, after a pair of independent releases on Top Dawg Entertainment, including Habits & Contradictions (2012) and Setbacks (2011). The new album features guest appearances by Kanye West (“THat Part”), Vince Staples (“Ride Out”), Jadakiss (“Groovy Tony/Eddie Kane”), E-40 (“Dope Dealer’), Tha Dogg Pound (“Big Body”), Anderson . Paak (“Blank Face”), Miguel and Justine Skye (“Overtime”), with production by Sounwave, Swizz Beatz, Metro Boomin, Southside and Cardo, along with Nez & Rio, DJ Dahi and members of TDE’s Digi+Phonics team.
The critics have raved, with Pitchfork’s 8. 3 review calling it “a collection of catchy, urgent gangsta rap songs that show the South Central native at his charismatic best, gallows humor and tough talk failing to obscure a humane core. ”
The Vulture’s Craig Jenkins called “Ride Out,” Q’s collaboration with Vince Staples, “five minutes of these two cripping out of control over TDE maestro Sounwave’s evil-robot disaster-movie production certainly does the trick.” Rolling Stone’s 3. 5-star review hailed the new collection as “trapped and haunted… his music is richer for its resistance to escapist fantasy. ”
Born on a military base in Germany, where his father was Radio Station ed in the Army, Hanley moved with his mom to Texas for several years before settling in California, growing up in the Crenshaw district that produced such rappers as Dr. Dre and Lamar. He was a gangbanger for the 52 Hoover Crips, dealing Oxycontin before beginning to rap as a teenager.
He began working with Top Dawg Entertainment in 2006, his collaborators including Jay Rock and Ab-Soul, forming the group Black Hippy. ScHoolboy Q was named part of XXL Magazine’s 2013 Freshman Class, and performed last June at the BET Experience Music Festival with Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg and Miguel. He has since performed across various TV programs including, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel and Late Night with Stephen Colbert to name a few.
Oxymoron, his major label debut, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 when it was released in February, 2014, was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2015 Grammy Awards and Album of the Year at the 2014 BET Hip-Hop Awards, producing five different singles, including the hit “Collard Greens” (featuring labelmate Kendrick Lamar) along with “Man of the Year,” “Break the Bank,” “Studio” and “Hell of a Night.”)”Blank Face World Tour” dates listed below:8/30 Indianapolis, IN: Egyptian Room **8/31 Royal Oak, MI: Royal Oak Music Theatre **9/1 Toronto, ON: Sound Academy **9/6 Wallingford, CT: The Dome9/8 Philadelphia, PA: Electric Factory9/9 Lowell, MA: Tsongas Center9/14 Fairfax, VA: EagleBank Arena9/16 Raleigh, NC: The Ritz **9/17 Myrtle Beach, SC: House of Blues **9/18 Charlotte, NC: The Fillmore **9/19 Atlanta, GA: Tabernacle9/21 Louisville, KY: Palace Theater9/23 Nashville, TN: Marathon Music Works9/24 Memphis, TN: New Daisy Theater9/25 Chattanooga, TN: Track 299/27 Orlando, FL: Venue 5789/28 St. Petersburg, FL: Jannus Live10/1 Austin, TX: Austin City Limits **10/2 Oklahoma City, OK: The Criterion10/4: New Orleans, LA: House of Blues10/6 Dallas, TX: Southside Ballroom10/7 San Antonio, TX: Aztec Theater10/8 Austin, TX: Austin City Limits **10/9 El Paso, TX: Buchanans Event Center10/10 Albuquerque, NM: Tingley Coliseum10/11 Phoenix, AZ: Mesa Amphitheater10/13 Oakland, CA: Fox Theater10/14 San Francisco, CA: Warfield Theatre10/15 San Diego, CA: Observatory North Park10/16 Las Vegas, NV: Brooklyn Bowl10/18 Los Angeles, CA: Shrine Expo Hall10/21 Seattle, WA: WaMu Theater at CenturyLink Field10/22 Vancouver, BC: PNE Center10/23 Denver, CO: Fillmore10/24 Kansas City, MO: Arvest Bank Theatre at The Midland10/25 St Louis, MO: The Pageant10/26 Clive, IA: 7 Flags Event Center10/27 St Paul, MN: Myth10/29 Milwaukee, WI: Eagles Ballroom11/3 Auckland, NZ: Logan Campbell Centre11/4 Sydney, AUS: Hordern Pavilion11/5 Newcastle, AUS: This That Festival11/8 Brisbane, AUS: Eaton’s Hill11/9 Melbourne, AUS: Festival Hall11/10 Perth, AUS: Metro City11/21 Helsinki, FIN: Circus11/22 Oslo, NOR: Sentrum Scene11/23 Stockholm, SWE: Annexet11/24 Copenhagen, DNK: Falconer Salen11/25 Hamburg, GER: Docks11/26 Warsaw, POL: Progresja11/27 Berlin, GER: Astra11/29 Paris, FR: Zenith11/30 Lausanne, CHE: Les Docks12/1 Nimes, FR: Paloma12/2 Zurich, CHE: Komplex 45712/4 Esch-sur-Alzette, LUX: Rockhal Club12/5 Brussels, BEL: AB Main Hall12/6 Frankfurt, GER: Gibson12/7 Cologne, GER: Live Music Hall12/9 Utrecht, NLD: Tivoli12/11 Manchester, UK: Academy12/13 Glasgow, UK: O2 ABC12/14 London, UK: Brixton Academy12/15 Birmingham, UK: O2 InstituteNorth American dates marked with ** do not include Joey Bada$$
