Since its inception in 2023, Rolling Stone has been a prominent player in showcasing emerging talent at the South by Southwest festival. This year, the Future of Music festival is set to span three exciting nights, featuring a diverse lineup of artists. Anticipation is building for the upcoming performances by notable acts such as Fuerza Regida and BigXThaPlug, but the festival’s opening night at Austin City Limits Live was nothing short of electrifying.
The evening commenced with a powerful performance by Susannah Joffe, an Austin native who brought a sense of homecoming to the stage. Dressed in a striking baby blue ball gown with black lace accents, Joffe captivated the audience with her rich, resonant vocals and engaging stage presence. Her lyrics, filled with references to her Texan roots, resonated deeply, blending themes of pride with a hint of melancholy. As the crowd swelled, Joffe maintained a warm rapport, drawing everyone into her heartfelt performance.
Next up was Saint Harison, who took the energy down a notch with his smooth, emotive crooning. The Southampton artist’s soaring tenor voice was beautifully complemented by delicate piano melodies and atmospheric backdrops. Harison’s set included poignant songs about past relationships, interspersed with humorous anecdotes that kept the audience entertained. His natural charisma shone through as he expressed gratitude to the crowd after each song, hinting at his upcoming EP titled Ghosted, set to release on May 29.
Closing the night was Sofia and the Antoinettes, a dynamic four-piece band that embodied a playful yet profound musical style. Their performance was marked by Sofia’s powerful vocals and deeply emotional lyrics, which resonated with the audience. The band’s fashion sense matched their musical flair, creating a cohesive and captivating experience. Each act of the night contributed to a memorable kickoff for the Future of Music festival, setting a high bar for the performances to come.
