British musician Labrinth, known for his work on the acclaimed HBO series Euphoria, has publicly expressed his frustration with both his record label and the show itself, declaring he is “done” with the music industry. The artist, whose real name is Timothy Lee McKenzie, made this announcement via an Instagram post on March 13, just weeks after the release of his latest album, Cosmic Opera: Act I, and shortly before the highly anticipated third season of Euphoria.
In his candid post, Labrinth stated, “IM DONE WITH THIS INDUSTRY . F*** COLUMBIA. DOUBLE F*** EUPHORIA. IM OUT. THANK YOU AND GOOD NIGHT X.” This abrupt declaration has raised eyebrows, prompting inquiries from various media outlets, including The Independent, seeking comments from Labrinth, Columbia Records, HBO, and Euphoria’s showrunner, Sam Levinson.
Labrinth made his mark as the lead composer for Euphoria’s first season, earning accolades for his unique blend of dark electronic and R&B sounds that resonated with the show’s themes. His original tracks, such as “Mount Everest” and “All For Us”—the latter featuring the show’s star Zendaya—received significant recognition, with “All For Us” winning an Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.
After returning to compose for the second season, Labrinth even made a cameo in the fourth season, performing the song “I’m Tired” during a pivotal scene. Previously, he had praised Levinson for granting him creative freedom, allowing him to compose music based on inspiration rather than specific scene requirements. However, the reasons behind his recent discontent remain unclear, especially given his recent appearances alongside Levinson at events like Paris Fashion Week.
As the third season of Euphoria faces delays due to the Hollywood strikes and the tragic passing of actor Angus Cloud, who played Fezco, the show continues to attract attention. With a strong fanbase and multiple Emmy awards under its belt, including two for Zendaya, the series remains a significant player in the entertainment landscape. The upcoming season is set to premiere on April 12, 2026, but Labrinth’s future involvement seems uncertain.
