Olivia Rodrigo’s surprise appearance at No Doubt’s final Sphere show in Las Vegas gave the night an immediate viral edge, turning a farewell residency moment into a pop-culture crossover that matters to artists, publishers, and rights holders watching how fandom drives live attention. At a time when catalog, covers, and live-set shoutouts keep extending the life of songs, Rodrigo’s onstage hug with Gwen Stefani showed how a single guest moment can amplify both artists’ brands in real time.
Rodrigo’s sign pulled her from the crowd
At No Doubt’s final residency gig at the Sphere on Saturday night, Stefani followed her tradition from the 18-show run of pulling a fan from the crowd for a hug after spotting a sign in the audience. This time, the sign was being held by Rodrigo, whose pink message read: “I’m just a girl who wants the last hug at the last show.”
Stefani recognized her immediately and shouted, “Is that Olivia Rodrigo? Oh my gosh. Give it up for Olivia Rodrigo! She has a new record that just came out.” Rodrigo, wearing black boots, a black and white striped miniskirt, a yellow T-shirt and a white baseball hat, waved to the crowd and leaned in for the hug before grabbing Stefani’s mic and saying, “No Doubt, best band in the world! I love you so much.”
The two hugged twice more before Rodrigo ran offstage, and Stefani told the crowd, “that was really her. That was not a mask.” Stefani later thanked Rodrigo on X, posting fan video and writing, “thank u so much for coming @oliviarodrigo.”
A fandom connection built on repeated gestures
The moment followed earlier signs of Rodrigo’s long-running admiration for No Doubt. Two years earlier, No Doubt reunited at Coachella in 2024, and Rodrigo appeared as a surprise guest on “Bathwater.” For that performance, she wore black dress pants and a white tank top with red bra visible underneath that read “I ❤️ ND.”
Rodrigo also covered No Doubt’s 1996 Billboard Pop Airplay chart No. 1 hit “Don’t Speak” during her 2025 Lollapalooza Chile headlining set, telling the crowd, “this next one is one of my favorite songs that I didn’t write. I’m very jealous of the people who wrote it, because I think it’s amazing.” She also included “Just a Girl” on her setlist during her 2022 North American Sour tour.
Stefani’s Sphere run closes with a first
No Doubt kicked off its 18-show run on May 6, and Stefani became the first woman to headline the venue. The Sphere has also hosted U2, Phish, Dead & Company, the Eagles, Anyma, Kenny Chesney, the Backstreet Boys, Chase & Status, Zac Brown Band and Illenium.
What to watch next: Rodrigo’s new album is now out, and her No Doubt connection has already carried from Coachella to her tour setlists and now to the final Sphere show.
