Ariana Grande is turning her ongoing Eternal Sunshine Tour into a slow-roll tracklist reveal for Petal, and that matters because every new title becomes a fresh moment of attention around a release still weeks away. For publishers, songwriters and rights holders, the campaign keeps fan focus on the album ahead of its July 31 drop while exposing each song name in a live setting.
Tour visuals are doubling as album clues
On Sunday, June 14, Grande played the second of two shows at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, where a countdown on the big circular screen used in her show visuals glitched at the 3-minute mark to reveal “3. petal.” That confirmed the third song on the album will be its title track.
The moment followed a similar reveal on Saturday, June 13, before her first performance at the L.A. arena. When that night’s countdown hit the 1-minute mark, “1. kiss me” flashed briefly on the screen, and Grande later shared a clip of it on Instagram.
The first three titles are now known
With Grande already having released lead single “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” the first three songs in Petal’s tracklist preview are now clear. The album opens with “Kiss Me,” followed by “Hate That I Made You Love Me” and then “Petal.”
The lead single debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier in June, and streaming services list it in the second slot of the tracklist preview.
Nine titles are still unrevealed
Petal will contain 12 tracks total, which means nine song titles have not yet been revealed. Grande’s next performance is set for Wednesday, June 17, at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, Calif., where she will play three shows and could unveil three more song names.
Grande has previously described Petal as “a little feral” and said it comes “from a place I’ve been maybe too shy or polite to tap into before.”
The rollout continues as the tour nears its end
By the time the album arrives on July 31, the Eternal Sunshine Tour will already be most of the way over. After upcoming dates in the U.S. and Canada, Grande will close with 10 shows at London’s O2 Arena, ending Sept. 1.
What to watch next: whether Grande reveals additional Petal titles during her three shows at the Kia Forum this week.
