Julia Jacklin has kicked off the rollout for The Gem, a new album that matters immediately to anyone tracking recorded-music release strategy, because the project arrives as her debut for 4AD Records and comes with a first single already in market. The release pairs new music, a defined format plan, and a North American and European touring schedule, giving publishers and rights holders a clear picture of where attention will land next.
A debut 4AD release with a tight 10-track frame
The Gem is due September 25 and contains 10 tracks, all produced by Jacklin and Robert Muinos. Jacklin recorded the album from December 2024 to December 2025 in a converted hotel room above a Melbourne pub named The Gem, with Jacob Diamond on guitar, Mimi Gilbert on bass, and Jess Elwood on drums.
The album will be released digitally, on CD, cassette, and vinyl, including colored editions for retailers. Preorders are available now.
The first single arrives with the album announcement
With the announcement comes “Get Away From Me (I Think I’ll Love You Soon),” the album’s first single. Jacklin said in a statement that The Gem “felt like a metaphor for the whole process” and that “a lot of it did feel like digging,” adding that she was “trusting” she was going to find something.
The source also describes the single as showing Jacklin’s accessible approach to songwriting, with a catchy lyric, singable melody, jangle rock influence, melodic guitar noodling, and steady strumming and drumming.
Tour dates set the next phase of attention
Jacklin will tour North America this fall before heading to Europe early next year. The announced run begins October 20 in San Diego and includes stops in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Vancouver, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Denver, Dallas, Austin, Houston, Atlanta, Nashville, Raleigh, Washington, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, Brooklyn, Boston, and Philadelphia.
The European dates begin February 13 in Birmingham and continue through Manchester, Dublin, Glasgow, Bristol, London, Brussels, Berlin, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, and Lisbon.
What to watch next
The key next markers are the September 25 release of The Gem, continued attention on “Get Away From Me (I Think I’ll Love You Soon),” and the start of Jacklin’s North American tour this fall, followed by the European dates early next year.
