With the closing of the 2021 year fast approaching, Spotify released users’ annual Spotify Wrapped stats. For those who aren’t familiar with the social media crazed phenomenon, Spotify shows the yearly musical stats of its listeners as they reflect on past music choices.

The in-app data collection has been a fan favorite around the holidays as people rush to social media to share what they have been listening to on the platform. First launched in 2016, Spotify has continued to improve user-friendly improvements to better connect through the power of music. It’s just another way Spotify is bringing people closer together. For this year, Spotify Wrapped expanded to include a further global reach.

Alongside Wrapped, Spotify released their end-of-the-year music charts with Bad Bunny being the 2021’s number one most stream artist. The Puerto Rican rapper and singer takes the number one spot for a second straight year, raking up more than 9.1 billion streams.

Taylor Swift came in at No. 2, followed by BTS, Drake, and Justin Bieber. The news comes as no surprise as Bad Bunny continues to break global records with each release. From sold-out arenas to major brand contracts, Bad Bunny is a worldwide icon for many. While Bad Bunny took home the most streamed artist, one breakout artist ured in a new pop era.

Olivia Rodrigo shattered records with her major hit, “driver’s license.” The single earned Rodrigo the number one most-streamed song of 2021, earning more than 1.1 billion streams. “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” by Lil Nas X came in a close second. The queen of pop didn’t stop there as “good 4 u” was the fourth most-streamed song of the year, and her album “SOUR” was the most-streamed album in the world.

For the most-streamed podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience took the title. The ever-talented hitmaker Drake took the number one spot for US most streamed artist. Other noticeable artists that appear on the list include Kanye West for 3rd in US top artist, Glass Animals’ “Heatwave” for 4th best song, Doja Cat’s Planet Her for 3rd best album.
